About Dr. Raj Menon


History of Service on the Collin College Board of Trustees:

At their October 25, 2016 meeting, the Collin College Board of Trustees voted unanimously to approve the appointment of Dr. Menon of Plano to the Place 5 seat on the board to fill a vacancy created by the resignation of the previous incumbent.  In May, 2017, Dr. Raj Menon was elected in a Collin county-wide election with nearly 30,000 affirmative votes, after running unopposed.  He was also elected to be Board Treasurer by his fellow trustees.  On January 16, 2019, Dr. Menon filed for re-election to the Place 5 seat on the board.  In May, 2019, Dr. Raj Menon ran unopposed and was re-elected as a Trustee in Place 5 of the Collin College Board of Trustees to serve a full six-year term in office.  He was also re-elected by his peers on the board to serve as Treasurer.  Dr. Menon also serves on the Finance & Audit Committee of the Board.

Bio:

Dr. Raj Menon has served as a Trustee of the Collin County Community College District since 2016.  He was most recently re-elected in May, 2019, to serve a six-year term in office.  Dr. Menon who has been a Plano and Collin County resident for over 20 years, is an engineer by training, and an entrepreneur and small business owner in Plano, Texas.  He is president of Flat World Design, a promotional marketing and consulting business.

Raj is a graduate of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay, and moved to Texas in 1988 to pursue doctoral studies in Chemical Engineering at the University of Texas at Austin.  He earned a Master of Science degree as well as a Ph.D. in chemical engineering from UT Austin and an MBA from the McCombs School of Business at the same university.

A proud graduate of Leadership Plano (Class 30, Best Class Ever!) and a dedicated community volunteer, Dr. Menon is a sought after community leader.  He currently serves on the Board of Directors or Advisory Board of several organizations including the Collin College FoundationAtlantic Housing Foundation, Junior League of Collin County and the Advisory Council of the Communities Foundation of Texas – Collin County.

Dr. Menon’s previous volunteer and board leadership experience includes service as a trustee of the HCA Medical City Plano and Medical City Frisco hospitals, Chair of the Plano Symphony Orchestra Board, founding board member and President of the IIT Alumni Association of North Texas, The University of Texas at Dallas Jonsson School Advisory Board, Leadership Plano Executive Board, the Preston Green HOA in Plano, several committees with the Plano Independent School District, including the Plano ISD Academy Visioning Committee, the 2016 Plano ISD Facilities and Technology Task Force, and Chair of the Plano ISD Diversity Advisory Committee. He has also served on several PTA/PTSA Boards.

Dr. Menon is a recipient of several awards and recognitions including the Distinguished Service Award from IIT Bombay, the life member award from the Texas PTA, the Plano Arts Volunteer Award, and the Honorary Chair recognition from the Plano International Festival, among others.
